The Salmon River flows from Altmar, NY through Pulaski to Lake Ontario and offers some of the highest opportunity to catch world class salmon & steelhead. Annually salmon typically start entering the river in late August to begin their spawning run. The run is largely over by November but often there are small numbers of stragglers into December.  Shortly after some steelhead will follow to feed on salmon eggs. Steelhead numbers don't typically reach greater numbers until November when they start their spawning run and then return to lake in May. From August to May fishermen have the opportunity to catch king, coho, and Atlantic salmon as well as steelhead and brown trout.
